THE WORD ALIVE

Acts 18: 24-28

WHAT ARE TO USING YOUR SKILLS
AND GIFTS FOR?

Today we are looking at the person of Apollos as portrayed to us in this passage. Apollos possess the character of a man who would go far in God's scheme of things. Obviously, he was a man set apart to accomplish a lot for the Lord through his life and ministry. There are a number of things to learn: First, Apollos was a man knowledgeable in Scriptures. If we wish to go far, we must not only define our relationship with God but also our relationship with God's word. Remember, the written word of God is the number one way that God speaks to us. Therefore, we need to give it priority attention daily.
Second despite his vast knowledge of God;s word, Apollos was still humble and willing to learn some more. He was teachable, He still humbled himself to learn under the ministry of Priscilla and Aquila (they are partners with Paul). The common temptation for many of us is to arrive at a point where we feel too big to still learn; to feel we know it all and no one speaks into our lives any more. This arrogant attitude has caused the downfall of many from grace. No matter how high you get on the ladder, you must always be willing to stoop down to learn some more. Third, Apollos put his knowledge and zeal to full use in the defence of the gospel. His skills and gifts were not for self-aggrandizement. What are you using your skills and gifts for? Are you using them for the Lord's glory or for your own glory?

PRAYER: Lord help me to employ the resources of my life in advancing the gospel.
